Since the Steering Mode selected may refer to a single or a dual independent rudder system, the STMS displays actual mode selected (NFU, FU etc.) by LED indication against a Control panel listing which shows System 1 & System 2 (i.e. rudder system No.1 & No.2).
As a dual independent rudder system will involve two Steering Controllers (one for each system) the STMS is equipped with two isolated channels of “enable” control and “active” status lines to provide complete separation between Controllers.
In addition to mode display confirmation via the STMS Control Panel LEDs, Steering Override status indications and alarms are also activated on the STMS when the Override Control has been operated.
Override Control Operation results in an audible alarm which can be stopped via the “STOP ALARM” key although the “OVERRIDE ACTIVE” LED will continue to be illuminated until the “STOP OVERRIDE” key is operated to end the override condition.
The NT1000 STMS Steering Mode Selector is not suitable for external location and should be mounted in an enclosed wheelhouse in close proximity to the conning position if not an integral component of the Main Steering console. |
